What were the best trash talk moments of the NFL season?

You know the beef is real when your mayor gets involved.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs are quickly developing into one of the NFL’s premier rivalries. Both young titans of the AFC, it’s becoming clear that both teams will likely face each other in important postseason games in the years to come.

That is, of course, as long as each hires Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes. And while both men have been captains of their craft over the past few years, Burrow has gotten the better of Mahomes in their early struggles.

“Joe Cool” is currently 3-0 against the 2018 MVP, including a significant comeback win against Kansas City in last year’s AFC Championship. And because of Burrows’ recent success against the Chiefs, the entire city of Cincinnati is very confident in his ability to lift them again.

Just ask the mayor.

“As the Cincinnati Bengals head to Burrowhead Stadium for their second game in the AFC Championship,” the city’s 70th mayor Aftab Pureval read in a video posted on social media.

That was just the beginning of the trash talk.

“While last year’s game saw the Bengals score more points than the Chiefs,” he continued, “resulting in a Bengals win and a Chiefs loss. While Joseph Lee Burrow, who is 3-0 against Mahomes has been asked by officials to take a paternity test which confirms whether he is his father or not.

While Cincinnati has been on the path of destiny all season, fighting to overcome anyone standing between them and a Super Bowl victory. And while Kansas City is named after its neighboring state, which is—you know, just kind of weird. Now I, Aftab Pureval, Mayor of the City of Cincinnati, do hereby declare January 29, 2023 as “They Must Play Us Day” in Cincinnati. Thank you.”
