Resident Evil Fan recreates Barry Burton’s Samurai Edge Gun

A huge fan of the Resident Evil franchise takes the fandom a step further by replicating Barry Burton’s custom Samurai Edge handgun.

ONE Resident Evil fan has apparently recreated STARS member Barry Burton’s signature weapon, the Samurai Edge. Although there have been no recent sightings of Barry in recent matches (his last appearance was Resident Evil Revelations 2), his signature weapon remains a favorite in the gaming community.

Barry Burton and his signature Samurai Edge first appeared in the original in 1997 Resident Evil on the PlayStation as Barry’s personal armament. It also appears in Resident Evil HD remake where there was an unlockable item that could be accessed by beating the game on normal or hard difficulty in under 5 hours. In that game, it has unlimited ammo and does not need to be reloaded, making it one of the strongest weapons next to the infinite rocket launcher also available as a secret.

Reddit user ParadoxicalAmalgam shared photos of his custom Samurai Edge pistol complete with a custom Kendo Gun Shop gun case. While the weapon appears to be complete, the owner has stated that they would like to have the slide engraved in the future. Comments on the post have ranged from plain words of praise to comical responses that say “It works against the undead too, just can take more shots.” – an obvious reference to Resident Eviltheir zombies.

The Samurai Edge last appeared in Resident Evil Village (or at least a version of it). However, Barry’s remains the most unique due to it being based on a different weapon model. Avid fans may know that Barry’s special handgun is based on a 96FS instead of the regular 92F from the other versions. The creator has also stated that the hardest part of creating the recreation was the compensator, in addition to finding the 96.

Fan art and customs like these are not new. But while most Resident Evil fans regularly cosplay for newer or more famous characters, references to older characters (or in this case older items) are rarely made. However, Samurai Edge has played a recurring role in Resident Evil lore – become a signature weapon of the STARS team. With its association with another figure in the Resident Evil universe, Joseph Kendo, the gun has developed roots deeper than its first appearance. Therefore, Barry Burton’s model still holds the distinction of being the first version of the weapon seen in the game, which is why it will remain special in the history of Resident Evil franchise.
