Artist designs unique Poke Balls for each Kanto Region Pokémon

A Pokemon artist creates some unique Poke Balls for each of the Kanto region’s Pokemon and shows off the effort in a video.

ONE Pokemon fan and artist created some unique and intricate Poke Balls based on the Kanto region’s original list. The artist then posted some of his work in a video on social media and received attention and praise from others Pokemon fans for their efforts.

In the first generation of Pokemon game, the Kanto region played host to 151 unique Pokémon, each with distinct traits that have remained largely intact over the past three decades. Some of the most notable Pokémon from Kanto appeared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet too, with some receiving new variants in different generations. From Meowth receives two regional variations in Pokemon Sun and Moonand back in Pokemon Sword and Shieldto others such as Tauros receiving three different Paldean forms in the current generation, the influence that the Kanto region has on the greater world of Pokemon goes beyond its limits.

A Reddit user named threerobots posted a short, 18-second video of some of the Poke Balls they made. The video was posted on the r/pokemon subreddit, with designs for Blastoise, Machamp, Meowth, Mewtwo, and Lickitung among those shown. However, Trerobot posted all 151 unique Poke Ball designs on their YouTube channel called “Here’s Wally” for Pokemon fans to take a look at.

According to the video’s story, the inspiration behind these fan-made Poke Balls was taken from another Cantonese Pokemon in the form of Ditto. Ditto can transform into copies of other Pokémon they see and are often sought after by Pokémon breeders for the purpose of creating Pokémon Eggs en masse. Ditto has appeared in almost every main series Pokemon game to date. As a result, three robots named their creation the “Ditto Ball”, explaining that the ball, like the Pokémon it’s named after, takes on the likeness of the Pokémon it holds inside.

The Reddit post received over 3.6,000 upvotes on the r/pokemon subreddit. In the comments, threerobots stated that they used Blender to create the designs for the “Ditto Ball” variants, but it remained unclear how long it took them to create each of the Poke Balls in question. However, three bots expressed interest in creating “Ditto Balls” based on Pokemon from other regions such as Johto in the future.

To this day, Poke Balls remain in use from Kanto to Paldea and are a staple item for Pokemon trainers worldwide. While new, official Poke Ball designs aren’t as common these days, it hasn’t stopped Pokemon fans and artists from designing their own Poke Balls for their favorite Pokémon.
